James August Berendzen 76, of Centertown, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016. He was born February 20, 1940, in Mary’s Home, the son of the late Clem and Martha (Bax) Berendzen. James was drafted into the United States Army from 1963-1965 during the Vietnam Era. Following his service in the Army he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage on June 25, 1966, in St. Martins, Mo., to Anna Stegeman who survives at the home. James worked for ten years with the Missouri Department of Transportation and later for Von Hoffman Press retiring in 2002. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time on the River, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Anna Berendzen, Centertown; three sons, Brian Berendzen, Jefferson City; Brent Berendzen, Russellville; Brad (Julie) Berendzen, California; six grandchildren, Cassidy (Garrett) Grellner, Suzanne Berendzen, Anthony Berendzen, Jenna Berendzen, Hunter Berendzen, Bryce Berendzen; eight siblings, Tom (Maria) Berendzen, Danny (Carol) Berendzen, Delores (Melvin) Schulte, Dottie (Ed) Kempker, Darlene (Ron) Wallis, Rosanna (Bill) Weidinger, Marsha (Dennis) Hayes, and Mary Jo Fox He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Bill Berendzen; and a brother-in-law, Ron Fox. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon Thursday, April 28, 2016, at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martins, Mo with the Rev. Edwin A Schmidt officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.
