H. J. Borghardt, 67, of California. Mo., passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Mo. H.J. was born on June 20, 1949, in California, Mo., the son of Carl Herman Borghardt and Bonnie Louise Schenwerk both of who preceded him in death. H. J. graduated from California High School in California, Mo., in 1967. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and also with the National Guard during the Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the Missouri National Guard 1267th Medical Group. H. J. worked in the construction business for many years which included working for the County Road District for over 10 years. He was a founding member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles # 4027. H. J. enjoyed farming; playing cards, NASCAR and enjoyed watching Westerns. Survivors include: one son, Hank Borghardt and wife (Jennifer) of California, Mo.; one daughter, Angela Porter and husband (Bill) of Knob Noster, Mo.; two brothers, Carl Borghardt Jr. of California, Mo. and Richard Borghardt and wife (Debbie) of California, Mo.; five grandchildren, Alexandria and Alisha Stone, Kaleb, Walker and Brayden Borghardt. He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Mike and Daniel Borghardt and grandchild, Jesse Lou Borghardt. A memorial service was held on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Officiated by Bro. Jack Bowlin. Inurnment will be at a later date at the California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home of St. James c/o the funeral home.
