Chester Morrow Hays

Chester Morrow Hays was born September 22, 1931, in Moniteau County, Mo., son of the late Quincy Byron Hays and wife, Letha Belle Morrow Hays. He passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016, in Washington, Mo., at the age of 84 years. Chester graduated from California High School in California, Mo., Lincoln University in Jefferson City with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and finally from U.M.S.L. (University of Missouri St. Louis) with a Master's Degree. Chester served his country as a Master Sargent in the United States Air Force from April 25, 1951 to January 24, 1955. On June 6, 1965, Chester was united in marriage to Lowella Foster in Sandy Hook, Mo. Chester taught school in Latham, Mo., Gerald, Mo., and many years at Meramec Valley School District in Pacific before retiring with 30 years in education. He enjoyed coaching basketball, volleyball, and track. After retiring, Chester enjoyed going to watch the games and umpiring Legion baseball. Chester enjoyed having his wife, children, and grandchildren around all the time. He was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Washington, the Washington Elks, and the Washington American Legion. Chester was preceded in death by: four brothers, Byron Hays, Webster Hays, and Virgil and Raymond Hays, both in infancy; and two sisters, Irene Campbell and Maurine Swanson. Mr. Hays is survived by: his wife, Lowella Hays of Washington; two daughters, Anne Schneider and husband, David of Washington and Jill Fischer and husband, Keith of New Haven; 4 grandchildren, Hannah & William Schneider and Charlotte and Castiel Fischer; three sisters, Lillian Ray of Olathe, Kan., Lucille Lotz and husband, Edward of Tuscon, Ariz., and Norma Altis and husband, Hubert of Liberty, Mo.; other relatives, and many friends. Funeral Service was held Monday, September 19, 2016, at 1 p.m., at the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Fred Broome officiating. Burial in the St. Peter's Cemetery in Washington. Memorials preferred to donor's choice. The family was served by the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington.
