Ralph Douglas Silvey, 73, of California, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home in California, Mo. He was born on May 30, 1943 in Independence, Mo. Ralph attended grade school in Latham and is a 1961 graduate of Tipton High School. On December 8, 1962, Ralph was married to Sharon Salzman at the Bunceton Baptist Church. Ralph worked for Fischer Pool Table for a short time. In 1964 he went to work for Co-Mo Electric Cooperative as an Area Lineman for 43 years. Ralph was passionate about working for Co-Mo. He worked numerous storm catastrophes including hurricanes Katrina and Rita. After retirement he taught at Linn Technical School in the Electrical Apprentice Program. Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church of California, Mo. Ralph was a devoted Christian and was baptized at the age of 12. He loved reading and studying the Bible. He also volunteered every Wednesday night assisting with meal preparation for the youth group at California First Baptist Church. Ralph loved to share his opinion and words of wisdom with friends, family, acquaintances and the occasional stranger. Ralph was very musically talented and played multiple instruments. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley, playing golf, and spending time with his grandkids. The grandkids were his greatest source of joy-they would always say Papa could fix anything. Ralph is survived by: his wife, Sharon of the home; one son, Dale Silvey (Kim) of California; a daughter, Tracy Barham (Roy) of Springfield, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Paula Silvey Fairchild; four grandchildren, Tyler Silvey (Tabatha) , Dylan Silvey, Myra Silvey all of California and Jacob Barham of Springfield; a sister, Linda Sumner of Liberty; many nieces and nephews; and several great- nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his son, Douglas Alan Silvey on April 16, 1993 and his mother, Ethel Silvey Wingate on August 16, 1994. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Sanctuary on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Pastor Lionel Roberts and Rev. Dr. Paul Branstetter officiating. Interment will be at Bunceton Masonic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Group, Goldschmidt Cancer Center, St. Bernard Baptist Church Holy House of Prayer, or Moniteau County Christian Ministries Buddy Pack Program.
