Ruby Louise (Wallenmeyer) Ziehmer, 96, of California, Mo., passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at her home surrounded with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 23, 1920, on a farm between Jamestown and Prairie Home, Mo. Ruby was the oldest child of Otto William & Louise Annette (Kaempfer) Wallenmeyer (who preceded her in death). She met Henry Ziehmer while attending the First Baptist Church and they eloped on February 15, 1941, at the home of Pastor David Jones of Eldon, Mo. Henry preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1990. She attended Carlos School until her eighth grade year. She came to California in the late 1930's and worked for Mildred Kuhlmann and her father. She worked at Obermans Tipton Pants Factory, Justrite Potato Chip Plant and retired from California Manufacturing Co. on August 16, 1991. After retirement she loved working at Clennin's concession stand at the race track and the fairgrounds, babysitting her great grandkids and several other children. She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed going to her Sunday School class, and had been a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 178th District, Rebekah Lodge, Funeral Dinner Coordinator at First Baptist Church and provided many families around the area with needed medical equipment through the Wheelchair Project. She loved cooking and canning, gardening, playing dominoes and cards, quilting, taking care of her flowers, and traveling. She never knew a stranger and always had a story to tell. She is survived by: one daughter, Linda (Louis) Bestgen; grandchildren, Jay (Connie) Bestgen, Lynn (Bob) Bookout, Lori (John) Volkart, all of California, Mo., Brent (Melissa) Bestgen of Owensville, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Cody & Kyle Volkart, Morgan & Wyatt Bestgen, and Hunter Bookout all of California, Mo.; one brother, Robert Wallenmeyer of California, Mo.; numerous family members and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: her sisters, Mildred Cain and Bessie Sutton; brother, Lee Wallenmeyer. Family received friends from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017, at First Baptist Church-Family Life Center in California. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at First Baptist Church in California, Rev. Casey Malley and Rev. Joshua Hartley officiated. Interment followed in California City Cemetery. Expressions of Sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, California First Baptist Church or the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
