After a two-month illness, Michael Wayne "Mike" Moore, 64, of California, Missouri gave up the good fight on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Capital Region Medical Center Jefferson City. He was born on September 6, 1953, in California, Missouri to Donald and Shirley (Bower) Moore. An accomplished trumpet player, Boys State Delegate, and a true Boy Scout whose buddies have remained lifelong friends, Mike graduated with the class of 1971 from California High School. After racking up some college credits and working in Texas, Mike returned to California, where he married the love of his life, Peggy Parish on September 21, 1984, in Fortuna. As owner and operator of Moore Construction, Mike gained a reputation as a smart, honest, and talented craftsman. Known for his wit and compassion, Mike never met a well-stocked campsite, pickup poker hand, Dallas Cowboys game, scruffy little dog, or walleye fishing hole he didn't like. Along with his wife, Peggy, Mike is survived by his son, Joe Parish, and beloved dog, Biscuit, as well as his mom, Shirley Moore, and his sister, Pat Moore, all of California; his aunt, Sue Goedde of Jefferson City; his aunt, Sarah Ernst (Ralph) Springfield; and several cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his father Donald "Don" Moore; grandparents Sam and Edna Bower and Carl and Bonnie Moore; and his very special Thomas "Uncle Hutch" Bower. At the request of Mike, who wasn't big on getting dressed up for formal occasions, there will be no public service at this time; private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Boy Scout Troop 120 or Theresa Porter Cat and Kitten Rescue in care of Windmill Ridge Funeral Service, P.O. Box 443, California, MO 65018. Online messages to the family may be contributed at www.windmillridgefuneralservice.com.
