Rex Alfred Volkart

VOLKART Rex Alfred Volkart, 85, of California, Mo., passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. He was born on December 29, 1932, near California, Mo., the son of Alfred "Kotch" Volkart and Emma "Folkerts" Volkart, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of California High School in 1950. Rex was first united in marriage on September 5, 1954, to Shirley "Newkirk" Volkart who preceded him in death on June 13, 1979, then was later married to Elaine "Borghardt" Volkart on April 12, 1986, who survives of the home. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, elder and was on the stewardship committee. Rex was a Moniteau County Fair stockholder where he worked the admission gate for several years and was Grand Marshall of the fair parade in 2008. Rex worked for Ralston Purina, Mo-Wood, drove for Putnam's Chevrolet and City of California Water and Park Department until retiring in 1995. He also owned Rex's Package Liquor. Rex enjoyed going to his grandchildren's sporting events and taking trips to Branson. Survivors include one son, Scott Volkart and his wife Dayla of California, Mo.; two grandchildren, Connor Volkart of California, Mo., Erica Volkart of California, Mo.; one step- daughter, Jo Ann Schlup and her husband Randy of California, Mo.; two step-grandchildren, Lance Schlup and his wife Courtney of Jefferson City, Mo., Lyndsay York and her husband Dusty of California, Mo; four step-great-grandchildren, Paige Schlup, Cash Schlup, Lucy York, Elsy York; one brother, Alan Volkart and his wife Betty of Ashland, Mo.; two sisters, Judy Leithauser of Russellville, Mo., Anita McDonald and her husband Joe of California, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brother, Lex Volkart; brother, Jim Volkart; and sister, Arline Funkhouser. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating was Rev. Evandro Kopper. Burial was at the California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to DeFoe Cemetery c/o the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of Bowlin Cantriel Funeral Services, California, Mo.
