Ora "Ray" Woods

Ora "Ray" Woods, age 77, of California, Mo., passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 25, 1941, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Ora Ottis and Emma "Helton" Woods. He was united in marriage on October 28, 1961, at Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City to Juanita "Faye" Surface, who survives at their home. Ray was a graduate from Southern Boone High School. He worked in concrete construction most of his life until retirement. In retirement years he was in charge of grandchildren, mowing the yard, and the gardens. He was the patriarch of his family in ever sense of the word. He was always available and willing to do whatever it was his family needed. Throughout his life he spent a great deal of time on the Missouri River in his boat, where he commercial fished for many years. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, and worked to train many hunting dogs. Most of all he cherished his family and the time spent with them. Along with his wife of 57 years, Faye, he is survived by four children: Charlotte (Carl) Kirchhoff of California, Gayle (Scott) Sapp of Jefferson City, Dana (Mike) Hardin of California, David (Keisha) Woods of California; 13 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren, and one great-grandson arriving July 2019; one brother: Otis Wayne (Ruth) Woods of Holts Summit; one sister: Shirley Wood of Jefferson City; numerous nephews and nieces and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law: John Wood; and one grandson. Private family services wer held Saturday, January 26, with Rev. Bart Larson officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hartsburg, Mo. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital. Arrangements were under the direction of TYLER M.
