Gail Frederick Bolin

BOLIN Gail Frederick Bolin, 87, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Valley Park West in California, Mo. Gail was born in California, Mo. to Norma Jean (Howard) Bolin and Frederick Leonard Bolin on April 23, 1931. He graduated from California High School in 1949. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 1954. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Kansas City Art Institute in May of 1959. He worked as an art teacher at Lee's Summit High School, a furniture buyer for Macy's, he owned an art supply business and after retiring drove the courtesy van for John Knox Village. He was a member of the California First Baptist Church. He retired from Macy's in his 40's and made a trip around the world that inspired a lifetime of travel. His hobbies included reading, collecting artwork, theatre, gardening, music, and singing. He was an eternal optimist who inspired his friends and family with his laughter and unconditional love. Gail was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Bonnie Lee (Bolin) Birdsong; and his traveling companion, Diane Black. Gail is survived by his three nieces, Gale Zoellers (Mark) of Frisco, Texas; Carol Birdsong (Jamey Asahl) of California, Mo.; and Lynn Totten (Scott) of Jefferson City, Mo. He is also survived by his great-nieces and nephews, Jason Zoellers (Amy) of Independence, Mo.; Adam Moats (Stephanie) of Jefferson City, Mo.; Heather Manning (Kevin) of Frisco, Texas; Leslie Eidson (Jason) of Liberty, Mo.; and seven great-great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice Compasses, c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, Mo.
