Jennie Merritt, 82, of California, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. Jennie was born July 9, 1937, in Warrensburg, Mo., the youngest of three daughters of Elmer J. "Jack" Bryson and Alberta F. (Stapleton) Bryson. She married Billy W. Merritt on June 9, 1957. Jennie was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg. Her early married years were spent making a home for her husband Billy and raising her two boys, Anthony and Wesley. After the boys were older, Jennie began a second career at Stride Rite in Tipton, Mo., where she worked for 16 years. Jennie enjoyed shopping for antiques, attending glassware shows, and traveling. She loved visiting new places, exploring caves, and attending horse shows. Jennie enjoyed family gatherings and was known for her pies, cakes and candies. She enjoyed playing games with family, friends, her children and grandchildren. Jennie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Billy; her two sons, Anthony (Rhoda) and Wesley; her grandson, Mark (Angela) Merritt; a step-granddaughter, Rose Smith Adams; great-grandson, Bryson Merritt; and step-great-granddaughters, Hannah Burr, Amaya Adams, and Adrianna Adams; her sisters, Tutti McIntyre and Jinx Bancroft; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019, with visitation following at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service in California, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Parkinson's research through the Parkinson's Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
