Thelma Simmons

Thelma Simmons, 85, of California, MO., passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Eldon Nursing and Rehab. Thelma was born on July 22, 1933 In Olean, Mo., the daughter of Wesley Houston and Pearl Ann (Bond) Houston, both of whom preceded her in death. Thelma was a graduate of Eldon High School. Thelma was united in marriage to James "Glenn" Simmons, who preceded her in death on October 20, 1975. Thelma worked as a repair operator at a shoe factory in Tipton, Mo. until retirement. Thelma was a member of the Church of Christ in California, Mo. Thelma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and being outside. Survivors include one brother: Carl Houston and his wife Ellen of Tipton, Mo.; one sister: Sherry Haynes of Eldon, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11:30 a.m. all at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Healea. Burial will be at the California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Association, California Church of Christ, or donor's choice, c/o the funeral home.
