Jewell O. Haile

Versailles, MO

1935 - 2013

Jewell O. Haile, age 77, of Versailles, left the bonds of earth on January 10, 2013, to rejoin her beloved husband, Roy E. Haile, in Heaven. They were married on September 14, 1954, and had enjoyed 41 years of marriage at the time of his death on September 12, 1995. Jewell was born in Versailles on June 19, 1935, to Tony and Lola Brockway, who preceded her in death. At the ripe old age of 25, she was the mother of four children under the age of 5. She is survived by those children, Gloria Coats (Mike) of Hughson, California, Gene Haile (Lois) of California, Missouri, Pat Hays (Joe) of Little Rock, Arkansas and David Haile of Versailles, Missouri. She leaves behind ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and her two sisters, Betty Lou Calton and Oma Dowell both of Versailles, Missouri. Jewell was a woman of many talents and she kept busy every moment. She was not one to sit down and rest. She sewed clothing for her daughters and made the best Barbie doll clothes any little girl would ever want. She cooked great meals and some of her family's best memories were made around her kitchen table. She painted, wallpapered, refinished furniture, made numerous craft projects, painted ceramics and kept an immaculate home. She made and collected porcelain dolls. Every summer she planted an enormous garden and she canned vegetables and made jelly, juice and pickles. Her home and yard were always filled with flowers, many of which she nursed through the winter and set out again in the spring. She always took great care with her looks, even polishing her nails the day before her heart surgery. Her children thought she was the most beautiful woman they had ever seen. Her beauty and her big heart will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of Jewell's life was held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the funeral home, with Reverend Douglas S. McGarity of Savannah, Georgia officiating. Graveside services and interment followed in the Versailles Cemetery where she will lay in rest next to her husband. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Foundation for Barnes Jewish Hospital, 1001 Highlands Plaza Drive West Suite 140, St. Louis, Missouri, 63110.
