California coach gets Homecoming surprise
During the coin toss of the California Pintos' Homecoming football game Friday at Riley Field, veteran and California Middle School Football Coach and teacher Ed Ziegs thought he was invited to take part to be recognized as a veteran, along with veterans at the game, and to be honored for his service as a Pinto football coach. Little did Ziegs know he was about to be surprised with a very personal homecoming of his own. His son-in-law Nathan Dalbey, who had been serving with U.S. Armed Forces in Afghanistan, had arrived home Thursday and had just walked onto the field to surprise Coach Ziegs and his wife Beulah. Above, Ziegs and Dalbey embrace during the coin toss.
