After 16 years as the head track coach at California High School, Rick Edwards, California, is leaving the position (as well as his position as sixth-grade Social Studies teacher at California Middle School) to take on a couple of new roles. He will start off the 2014-15 school year as the new CMS Assistant Principal and athletic director for the California R-I School District.

The May 25 edition of Sunday Night Thunder at the Double-X Speedway, California, was the 'Tribute to Jesse and Daniel,' the annual race in memory of the late Jesse Hockett and Daniel McMillan, two beloved members of the racing family who called the California track home.
The ninth annual California Last-Day-of-School Pool Party was held for California R-I students in grades pre-k through 12 Wednesday, May 21, at the California Country Club, where approximately 90 children enjoyed an afternoon of swimming, music, food and games, including a sponge relay race, marshmallow toss, and vertical bucket toss.
Area high school track athletes competed at Class 3 Sectionals Saturday at Eldon, and Class 1-2 state track championships Friday-Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Jefferson City, where a number were top finishers. (The top four finishers at sectionals qualify to advance to the state championships, and the top eight at state earn All-State honors.)
Five members of the Jamestown C-I varsity baseball team and five members of the Prairie Home R-V baseball team were recently named to the 2014 CCAA All-Conference baseball teams.

Six members of the Jamestown varsity track team competed at the Class 1 Sectionals track meet Saturday at Central Methodist University, Fayette, where two finished in the top four of their event to advance to the Class 1 State Track Championships Saturday, May 24, at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Jefferson City.
