Business closing and broadband expansion discussed at MRED

The Moniteau County Regional Economic Development Council (MRED) Board of Directors heard from Bob DeWeerd, Nordyne operations manager, at its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Norman G's in Tipton.

Reviewing Nordyne's plans for the next month, DeWeerd said the Tipton facility is being closed in phases and all production is expected to be out of the building by mid-November.

He explained that Nordyne got caught up in the housing industry decline and is consolidating its production facilities.

He said 48 of the 63 employees at the Tipton plant are transferring to the Boonville facility.

The corporate real estate people are seeking to market the building which is owned by the company. It is 50,000 square feet with 35,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
