California Bands Present Annual Christmas Concert

The California schools bands presented their annual Christmas concert at the California Performing Arts Center Monday, Dec. 7.

The concert began with a performance by the guitar methods class. The group performed several numbers including "Jingle Bells" and "Silent Night."

Next the High School Concert Band, under the direction of Dustijn Hollon and Erika DeMoss, took the stage and performed "Sleigh Ride," "Armed Forces Salute," "Christmas Scrapbook," "Mele Kalikimaka," "C'est Noel" and "Polar Express Medley."

Then, Senior Jacob Small, first-chair euphonium of the All-National Band, entertained the audience with several short etudes during a brief intermission.

The instrumental tech class took the stage and performed on keyboard percussion instruments, a trilogy of video game theme songs that included "Legend of Zelda," "Angry Birds" and "Tetris."

Next, the award-winning California drumline, under the direction of Hollon, performed music from their 2015 competition show "MASTER."

The high school concert concluded with a performance by the Pinto Guard, under the direction of Stacey Davis, from their 2015 competition show, "Ghost."

The middle school portion of the concert began with the sixth grade band. They performed three selections including "Up On A Housetop," "Jolly Old St. Nick" and "Winter Triology."

Then, the combined seventh and eighth grade band performed "March Bits and Pieces," "Saxes We Have Heard On High," "Nuttin' For Christmas" and "Winter Medley."

The 66-member Pinto Pride Marching Band will represent Missouri in the Florida Citrus Bowl Parade, the Universal Studios Holiday Parade in Orlando, Florida, and the Outback Bowl Parade in Tampa, Florida.
