The California Basketball Tournament is underway

The California Lady Pintos fall to Boonville 50-44 in the opening round of the California Tournament. At the end of the first quarter of play the Lady Pintos trailed Boonville 10-6. Having a strong second quarter the Lady Pintos only trailed by two at the half 24-22. Boonville game out of the locker room on a full tank and dominated the Lady Pintos in a 10-3 third quarter. The Lady Pintos put up 19 points to Boonville's 16 in the fourth, however, it was not enough as time ran out with the final score 50-44.

Coach Bobby Sangster stated, "Boonville was a very good team and not a typical 5 seed. They took care of the basketball better than we did and that made them get the "W'. We are missing the edge factor more so than ever before and will be working on that to get the team more motivated."

Leading the Lady Pintos in scoring was Elizabeth Lutz with 14 followed by Renee Roberts with 7.

The Lady Pintos (5-6) will play Marshall on Wednesday (today) at 4:30 p.m.

The Jefferson City Lady Jays blanked down Marshall in the fourth quarter during a 72-22 rout in a first-round game of the California Tournament on Monday.

Jefferson City, the top seed, raced out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and pushed the lead to 45-13 at halftime. It was 59-22 heading to the fourth quarter, where the Lady Jays had a 15-0 advantage.

Jefferson City's Megan Foster tied the production of the Lady Owls by herself, as she had 22 points and posted a double-double thanks to 10 rebounds.

Also for the Lady Jays, Caitlin Anderson racked up 18 points and had nine steals.

Jefferson City (12-3) will play fifth-seeded Boonville at 6 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.

In the California Boy's Tournament action Boonville defeated Fatima 76-61 and Southern Boone took down Fulton 79-71.

The Pintos played Fatima Tuesday, however results were not available at press time.
