"I have to have something to read," said Alma Chambers, a resident at the California Care Center.
The senior delivery program through the Moniteau County Library @ Wood Place helps fuel her pastime with new titles every other week.
Fellow residents Betty Howard and Marie Kobel also look forward to the new books and magazines, which they check out from a cart with the help of the activities director, Angie Dumsday, and her staff.
Howard looks forward to a new mystery and Kobel said she's a fan of author Debbie McComber.
In recent years, the California Care Center has received several donations of reading materials, Dumsday said.
But the library's program, started only a few months ago, allows residents to request titles, genres or authors for volunteer Mark Bogue to check out.
"They really enjoy it," Dumsday said. "We have several ladies who really enjoy reading."
The library's senior delivery program also serves residents at the Moniteau County Care Center.
The large print books, in particular, are popular with the residents, Dumsday said.
"Books keep their minds going," she said. "We want to keep it home-like."
