Challenger defeats incumbent in only county race

The only contested Moniteau County race in Tuesday's General Election saw the challenger in a surprising win over the incumbent. The race was that of Associate County Commissioner District 2. Challenger Greg Robinson, Republican, received 1,698 votes for 66.88 percent of the vote, defeating his Democratic opponent, incumbent Kim Roll, who took 839 votes, 33.04 percent.
The election was one of high turnout, with voters lined up at several of the polling places. There were 6,902 ballots cast, or 72.31 percent, of the 9,545 Moniteau County registered voters who visited the polls.
Local Uncontested Race Results
The candidates for the offices of Sheriff, Assessor, Associate County Commissioner District 1, Coroner and Public Administrator ran uncontested after having won in the August primary.
Taking office on Jan. 1, 2017, will be Sheriff Anthony "Tony" Wheatley, Associate County Commissioner District 1 Noland Porter, Coroner Marty Ramsdell and Public Administrator Cher Caudel.
Assessor Amanda Trimble will take office on Sept. 1, 2017.
Area Races
In less local races, Kenneth Hayden - Rep., ran uncontested in the race for Circuit Judge 26 Div. 2, as did incumbent State Rep. Caleb Jones, Rep., for the District 50 seat.
In the race for State Rep. for the District 58 seat, incumbent State Rep. David Wood, Republican, won in Moniteau County on the Republican ticket over Democratic candidate Travis Maupin. Wood received 2,869 votes - 83.55 percent. Maupin took 559 votes - 16.28 percent.
