Construction of Latham Memorial Family Park continues.
As organizers prepare for the park's ribbon cutting on May 30, nonprofit community betterment organization California Progress Inc. is still building its playground.
Rain has halted construction the past few weeks; however, as weather conditions clear up work will resume.
California Progress Executive Director Susan Hodges explained the organization is still asking for donations from the community as it completes the project.
She said it will cost around $40,000 to finish the playground. Workers will build and install sidewalks, high impact rubber mats for children's safety and equipment from playground vendors to be placed around or on the structure.
Planning for the park's Moniteau County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial is still underway. California Progress will hold the memorial's dedication immediately after the park's ribbon cutting. Choir and band groups will provide music for the event. a The 4-H children will hand out special recoginition ribbons to military families and water bottles, donated by C and R Market and Cal's Thriftway, to attendees.
Mike Staton will emcee the event and Veteran of Foreign Wars Chaplain George Shelley will offer the prayer.
