California Middle School wrestling takes second in tourney

California Middle School wrestling traveled on Saturday to compete in the Capital City Middle School Wrestling Tournament in Jefferson City. California improved from their Nov. 19 performance at Butler, where they went home with 23 medalists. At Capital City, the Pintos and Lady Pintos won a combined 29 medals.

The first place medal winners were Maiya Burger, Kristhel Guzman, Joanna Lemus, Cody Lutz, Abby Tiberghien, Braiden Trusty and Nehemiah Whitted. The second place medalists were Talyn Balsley, Traye Balsley, Colleen Elliott, Conner Farmer, Kaitlyn Forbis, Bella Fulk, Carter Hern, Sawyer McGill, Ivan Pena, Trenton Templeton and Kris Wiemer. The third place medalists were Gideon Banderman, Ivee Cooper, Rowdy Davis, Tanner Embry, Sierra Jordan, Jaidon Shickles and Logan Silkwood. The fourth place medalists were Luke Canale, Brooks Nichols, Miguel Orozco and Andrik Young. As a team, California finished the day in second place.

"Our team competed very well today. It was amazing. These young people wrestled against others wrestlers that have a lot of experience in wrestling and we had a lot of success today," Head Coach Patrick Truman said. "This is the third year for this program and the future looks bright for California Wrestling."
