California FFA cures country hams

On Saturday, Jan. 8th, members of the California FFA chapter gathered to cure their country hams to prepare for summer shows at the Moniteau County and Missouri State Fairs.

Each student who purchased a ham arrived at the California FFA building at their designated time. Students picked out their hams and applied the provided salt cure, wrapped their ham and put it in netting to be hung up for the summer.

During the event, the California FFA advisors Mr. Bieri, Mr. Morris, and Mr. Reichel, along with Charlie and Quynten Cary, helped out the students while they completed their project. Quynten, a sophomore in the California FFA chapter, won the Reserve Grand Champion cured ham at the Missouri State Fair this past August.

Forty-two FFA members cured a total of sixty hams. These members are looking forward to the summer fairs in hopes of bringing home a winning ham.
