Charity may start at home, but it certainly never stops in California.

The California Lions Club made another donation to community betterment group California Progress Inc. (CPI) for construction on the Latham Memorial Family Park. During their June 15 meeting, members approved a $3,000 contribution to CPI to assist with finishing the park's playground.

The gymnasium, swings and playground have been built; CPI will be using the donation on irrigation, seeding and other ground work. CPI Executive Director Susan Hodges said construction is going to remove the old soil and brick, and put down new topsoil as well as sow grass, plants and mulch bushes.

Hodges said the CPI board took a loan from its Neighborhood Assistance Project (NAP) revolving fund to finish work on the park. Money from the NAP fund allows the organization to provide loans to qualified property owners and tenants who wish to make improvements to their properties.

The donation from the Lions Club is in addition to its initial contribution of $5,000 in October 2021. She said the organization still needs to raise a lot of funds to replenish the amount they borrowed, but donations from the Lions Club go a long way in doing so.

She said the California Lions Club has always been a big supporter of the community, and CPI always appreciates its assistance.
