The fall sports season has officially ended for California High School and several student athletes have been awarded for their hard work with postseason honors.
Pintos football got off to a slow start after defeating the Fulton Hornets in week 2 of their season. California went on a four-game losing streak after the win in Fulton, including a one-point loss to Southern Boone in week 3 and a blowout loss to Osage in week 5. Many teams might've folded with a 105 record, but California didn't. The Pintos defied the odds and won the next three games, including an upset over Hallsville on senior night. California was eliminated for the playoffs by St. Francis Borgia in the district quarterfinals. Pintos football had six players named to the All-Conference Team. The All-District teams will be announced in December.
Pintos and Lady Pintos cross country had another strong season under the direction of Head Coach Kenny Goans. Two runners, Kenzleigh Goans and Ian Miller, qualified for the State Championships in Columbia, with Miller finishing 105th in Class 2 boys and Goans finishing eighth in Class 2 girls. For her outstanding season and finish at State, Goans was named to the All-Conference, All-District, and the All-State teams.
Lady Pintos golf put together another strong season under head coach Ashley Atteberry. California had two golfers qualify for the Class 2 State Tournament in Columbia, with freshman Anna Boyd finishing 41st and senior Anika Miller finishing 81st. Boyd earned the reward of being an All-District performer and senior Alayna Butts was an All-Conference performer.
Lady Pintos softball had an up-and-down 2022 season, finishing the year with a 14-12 record. However, there were some highlights along the way, including a comeback win over 2021 State Finalist St. Elizabeth and a one-run win on senior night against New Bloomfield. Lady Pintos softball ended their season with five players making one of the two All-District teams.
Lady Pintos volleyball's 2022 season was full of accomplishments and records. California volleyball had a total of 60 wins between all three teams, with seniors Lauren Friedrich, Abby Trachsel and Emma Whitson finishing their careers with 106 career wins. The Lady Pintos won all three of their regular season tournament and won a school record 31 matches. Friedrich and junior Isabella Kincaid were named first team All-Conference, first team All-District, and were members of the All-State team. Two other players also made the All-Conference and All-District teams, and junior Macie Trimble was an honorable mention in both conference and district.
