On Nov. 19, California Middle School wrestling had a fantastic day at the Butler Middle School Wrestling Meet.

California took 33 wrestlers to the meet and 23 of them won medals.

"With 23 teams being represented, I did not know what to expect out of his team, but we are aggressive. Our wrestlers are exciting to watch, but the competition will be stiff. Most of the other teams have youth clubs to feed experience into their middle school programs," California coach Patrick Truman said. "I am very proud of our accomplishments at this event, 23 medal winners out of 33 wrestlers. That's pretty good."

Taking first for for California were Maya Burger, Max Dunnaway, and Joanna Lemus.

Finishing second were Trays Balsley, Gideon Banderman, Luke Canale, Gabe McCumber, and Nehemiah Whitted.

Taking third were Tanner Embry, Sawyer McGill, Temwa Nkasi, Miguel Orozco, Ivan Pena, Jaidon Shickles, Abby Tiberghien, and Andrik Young. The fourth-place finishers were Jose Cruz, Kristhel Guzman, Carter Hern, Cody Lutz, Wade Moller, Brooks Nichols, and Evan Turner.
