Lady Pintos Golf get set for playoff action.

The 2022 season has been another season full of cheers and wins for California Lady Pintos Golf. At their most recent tournament in New Bloomfield, the Lady Pintos won their quad against New Bloomfield, Centralia, and Hallsville with a combined score of 202. Senior Alayna Butts was an overall medalist with a score of 43.

Head coach Ashley Atteberry has been there for all of California's ups and downs throughout the season. Atteberry said that California has played several really good teams, but the Lady Pintos have managed to hold their own and the girls have been playing to their advantage, no matter who they have been playing.

California's biggest tournament of the season so far came at the Tri-County Conference Tournament in Fulton, where the Lady Pintos finished fourth out of eight schools with a combined score of 421. Butts once again had a standout day, placing fourth out of all golfers with a score of 83.

"The Tri-County Conference golf tournament has been the most important tournament before districts," Atteberry said. "As there were markers that followed each group to make sure scores were accurate and it was a 10 stroke max rather than double par."

She explained the scores the girls had were a pretty accurate assessment of how well all the California performed in their Conference.

After their final tournament of the regular season in Boonville on Thursday, California will play in the district tournament in Moberly.

Last season, Atteberry and the Lady Pintos had two players perform well enough at districts to qualify for the State Tournament in Bolivar, with one of those golfers being Butts. Now, California will look to do it again in Moberly.

"To qualify for the state tournament, the top two teams will advance as a team, but if you are not on the top two teams, you will have to qualify individually and they take the top 12 individuals," Atteberry said. "It really varies on the scores. We were moved up to Class 2 this year and we have been in Class 1 all other previous years, but you will probably have to be under 95 in order to qualify for state individually."

The Class 2 District 2 tournament begins on Monday, Oct. 10 at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly, with the competition starting at 9 a.m.

For the Lady Pintos that make it to the State Tournament, this will be at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club in Bolivar, on Monday, Oct. 17, and Tuesday, Oct. 18. Tee-off times will be assigned to each player who qualifies.
