Eldon man gets probation in chase case

An Eldon man who led authorities on a chase in Cole County in March 2021 was placed on five years supervised probation for pleading guilty to multiple charges he faced in that case.

During a hearing before Cole County Judge Cotton Walker, Jesse Scott, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. If he fails to meet his probation conditions, he faces 10 years in prison.

While on patrol in Brumley, a Miller County deputy saw Scott traveling east on Missouri 42, according to a Miller County Sheriff's Department news release. Scott was wanted on several Miller County warrants and was also wanted in relation to several vehicle thefts in multiple counties.

Eventually, Scott made it to Cole County, where a sheriff's deputy attempted to stop him, but he fled at a high speed, causing one crash and endangering other motorists, according to the news release. Scott fled from the vehicle on foot.

The Jefferson City Police Department was also trying to find Scott, who was wanted in connection with the attempted theft of a motor vehicle, according to a news release from Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler.

While searching for Scott, a Cole County deputy was flagged down by a motorist in the 7000 block of Route D and advised of a person matching Scott's description walking along the highway who was attempting to hide from passing vehicles. The deputy checked the area and saw Scott running into woods west of the highway toward Scrivner Road.

While fleeing, Scott burglarized an occupied residence in the 5000 block of Scrivner Road, where he obtained keys to a vehicle parked outside of the residence and stole the vehicle. Scott then fled the area in the stolen vehicle.

Eventually, Scott was taken into custody after assistance from a citizen.
