Aldermen remain with current city health insurance

The City of California Board of Aldermen held a special meeting to discuss two pressing issues -- health insurance bids for city employees and the position of a new city clerk.

The board began its annual discussion for health insurance bids with Alderwoman Resa Dudley and Alderwoman Ronnie Korte. The two were tasked with research into the subject for the city. Both stated they were hesitant to change insurance this late into the fiscal year and recommended the board remain with its current health insurance plan.

Mayor Lanny Ash and the remaining aldermen agreed with Dudley and Korte and discussed how choosing the right or wrong insurance plan could have a massive impact on the city and its employees. Ultimately, the city decided to stay with its current health insurance provider with the understanding a timeline would be developed for when it could acquire new insurance.

The board then entered closed session to discuss the position of city clerk. Alderwoman Ronnie Korte told the Democrat three candidates were evaluated by the board, however, they could not be named publicly at this time.
