California Lions Club donates during first 2023 meeting

The California Lions Club donated to three entities for its meeting on Feb. 1.

The club donated $150 to the California Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association; $250 to the KidsSight Organization, which is a vision screening program for children; and $60 to the Missouri Lions Club Hearing Raffle, which raises funds for children's hearing clinics.

Ultimately, the club spent total of $460 during the meeting.

Members also discussed a donation to Mazie Osman, California R-1 Elementary SmartLab facilitator, for students' interested in a special science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camp. The donation would either go towards paying the camp's tuition, a school fundraiser or classroom materials. However, members decided to table the donation until they could find more information about what is required most, camp tuition or materials.

Members also touched base on the status of upcoming local events, such as the Lions Club annual track meet, the Moniteau County Fair and the Ham Turkey Festival.

Club member Paul Bloch also gave an update on Leadership Moniteau County, a new leadership organization sponsored by the Lions. He gave an update on the organization's first meeting and recited a list of members from other groups such as California Progress Inc. and the California Area Chamber of Commerce.

The group decided to table the California Lions Club new slate of officers to its next meeting.
