Cole County Presiding Judge Jon Beetem ordered a property in Russellville to be declared a public nuisance this week, resolving a lawsuit filed by the city against a property owner.

The suit, one of several nuisance lawsuits filed by the city during the past few years, was filed last year against Angela Beanland on her property in the 5400 block of Hatler Street.

The city alleged Beanland was violating a city ordinance by having numerous items that are classified as junk under city code on her property. The suit alleged there had been unsheltered storage of old, unused, stripped and junked machinery as well as implements and equipment.

Court documents say Beanland failed to appear or file a pleading related to the suit. Her default automatically admits allegations, according to the judgment.

The court ordered her to abate the nuisance by removing items stored outside in uncovered parts of the property within 30 days and charged $521 to her for the city's legal fees.
