California High School's Class of 2023 raked in nearly $1.4 million in scholarships.
Seniors gathered Thursday at the California Performing Arts Center to discover how much they received in scholarships. Forty-three students are eligible for the A+ Scholarship offered by the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, and 21 received the College Preparatory Certificate.
Nearly $128,000 came from local (Moniteau County) scholarships, with less than $13,000 being from private entities.
The $500 4-H Fowler & Viola Smith Young Memorial Scholarship was presented to Emma Russell.
4-H Scholarships, each for $500, were presented to Hunter Berendzen and Emma Russell.
The $500 4-H Terry Cole Memorial Scholarship was presented to Hunter Berendzen.
The $500 Alan R. Irey Memorial Scholarship was presented to Zoie Moore.
Six $500 Aurora Alumni Foundation scholarships were presented to: Megan Arnold, Kyla Combs, Bethany Medlin, Zoie Moore, Adrienne Porter and Gabrielle Rohrbach.
The $1,000 Billy Lou, Stanley "Deacon" and Doug Berry Memorial Scholarship was presented to Bethany Medlin.
Three $1,500 Bud and Nancy Bolinger Memorial Scholarships were presented to Grace Dampf, Peter Dampf, and Lauren Friedrich.
Thirty-two $250 Burgers Foundation Attendance Award scholarships were presented to: Madelyn Arriola, Shawn Bell, Hunter Berendzen, Abby Braby, Emma Braby, Natalie Branch, Alayna Butts, Jackson Cassil, Kyla Combs, Andrew Cutt, Grace Dampf, Peter Dampf, Katelyn Freiner, Lauren Friedrich, Steven Gentry, Zane Gilmore, Hayden Hern, Lanie Holtsclaw, Nathaniel Ireland, Martin Kilmer, Cole Kirksey, Treston Lewis, Zachariah McCullough, Anika Miller, Ian Miller, Ian Peterson, Adrienne Porter, Gabrielle Rohrbach, Emma Russell, David Schneider, Anneke Stepp and Abby Trachsel.
The $1,000 California Community Teachers Association Scholarship went to Emma Whitson.
Steve Liebi, president of the California Fraternal Order of Eagles, presented 14 $750 scholarships to: Megan Arnold, Hunter Berendzen, Alayna Butts, Jackson Cassil, Kyla Combs, Peter Dampf, Katelyn Freiner, Treston Lewis, Bethany Medlin, Zoie Moore, Adrienne Porter, Gabrielle Rohrbach, Emma Russell and Abby Trachsel. The scholarships are based on proceeds from fundraisers held throughout the prior year.
Gary Morris, California High School agriculture teacher, awarded four Cantley Trust FFA Scholarships in varying amounts. Emma Russell received a $1,000 scholarship, Katelyn Freiner received a $750 scholarship, Abby Braby received a $500 scholarship and Gabrielle Rohrbach received a $250 scholarship.
Four $1,000 Cantley Trust Mathematics Award scholarships went to: Katelyn Freiner, Treston Lewis, Adrienne Porter and Abby Trachsel.
Thirteen $750 Chamber of Commerce scholarships were presented to: Megan Arnold, Hunter Berendzen, Emma Braby, Alayna Butts, Kyla Combs, Peter Dampf, Martin Kilmer, Treston Lewis, Zoie Moore, Ella Percival, Gabrielle Rohrbach, Emma Russell and Emma Whitson.
Two $1,000 Charles A. Gabert FFA Scholarships were presented to Emma Russell and David Schneider.
Dale Moore received a $7,500 Clarksburg Scholarship.
Alayna Butts received the $500 Class of 1995 Scholarship.
Two $500 Coach Labuary Memorial Scholarships were presented to Hunter Berendzen and Jackson Cassil.
Two $500 Dr. Kevin C. Kohler Memorial Mid-Missouri Mission Team (3MT) Scholarships went to Lydia Banderman and Dale Moore.
Cole Kirksey received the $1,000 Dr. Larry Fletcher Memorial Scholarship.
Two $1,000 Duretta Mueller Memorial Scholarships were provided to Alexa Gunnerson and Abby Trachsel.
Six $500 Edward Kaiser United Church of Christ Scholarships were presented by Pastor Russ Cobb to: Jackson Cassil, Grace Dampf, Peter Dampf, Lauren Friedrich, Martin Kilmer and D.J. Schneider.
Two $1,000 Emma Kendrick Memorial Scholarships went to Bethany Medlin and Zoie Moore.
Emma Russell received a $600 Missouri State Fairs and Festivals scholarship.
Hunter Berendzen received a $1,500 FCS Financial Scholarship for $1,500.
Ten $1,500 George A. and Burnette C. Riley Scholarships went to: Lydia Banderman, Griffin Booth, Alayna Butts, Kyla Combs, Katelyn Freiner, Lauren Friedrich, Zoie Moore, Ella Percival, Gabrielle Rohrbach and Emma Russell.
Gabrielle Rohrbach received a $1,000 Higgins Asphalt and Paving Scholarship.
Peter Dampf received a $500 Hugh and Vera Hill Scholarship.

Two $500 Joshua Fletcher Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Lauren Friedrich and Treston Lewis.

Zoie Moore received the $500 Kelly David Messerli Memorial Scholarship.

A $4,000 Koch Foundation Scholarship was awarded to Jackson Cassil.
Two $250 Lawson Memorial Golf Scholarships were presented to Alayna Butts and Jackson Cassil.
Two $1,000 Lewis E. Short Memorial Scholarships were provided to Jackson Cassil and Gabrielle Rohrbach.
Two $200 Lucy Papen scholarships were awarded to Peter Dampf and Ella Percival. Grace Dampf received a $400 Lucy Papen scholarship.
Ian Peterson received the $2,000 Mark Crawford Scholarship.
Alayna Butts received a $500 Masonic Lodge English Scholarship.
Two $2,000 MFA Foundation Scholarships were presented to Peter Dampf and Gabrielle Rohrbach.
Emma Whitson received a $1,000 Miss Rebecca Zey and Miss Lela Zey Academic Memorial Scholarship.
Kyla Combs received the $1,000 Missouri (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Signing Day Scholarship.
Five $2,000 Moniteau County Cattlemen's Association Scholarships were awarded to: Hunter Berendzen, Jackson Cassil, Peter Dampf, Gabrielle Rohrbach and Emma Russell.
Two $1,000 Nelle Birdsong Memorial Scholarships went to Cole Kirksey and Emma Whitson.
Katelyn Freiner received a $500 Opal Clark Scholarship.
Hunter Berendzen received a $1,000 Paul and Randy Allee Memorial Scholarship.
Katelyn Freiner received a $1,000 Peterman Scholarship for Musical Excellence scholarship.
Treston Lewis received the $500 Richard B. and Hazel Mary Fulks Scholarship.
Four $1,500 Robert Denker Scholarships went to Hunter Berendzen, Peter Dampf, Jackson Cassil and Gabrielle Rohrbach.
Alexa Gunnerson received a $500 Teri Michaelson Memorial Scholarship.
Two $500 Travis Butts Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Anika Miller and Kaitlyn Schlup.
Three $500 Voitures 333, 40 & 8 Nursing Scholarships went to Kyla Combs, Kaley Darroch and Emma Russell. Alayna Butts received a $2,000 Voitures 333, 40 & 8 Nursing Scholarship.
Three $300 William Blake Vogel Memorial Scholarships were provided to Peter Dampf, Lanie Holtsclaw and Ella Percival.
Ella Percival received the $250 Young Minds Change Lives scholarship.
According to the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, students with at least a 2.5 grade-point average, a 95-percent attendance rate throughout high school, perform at least 50 hours of mentorship and maintain a good citizenship record while abstaining from drug use may qualify for the A+ Scholarship. Griffin Booth, who plans to attend Columbia College, Columbia, is receiving a $9,000 Achievement Scholarship and a $5,000 Men's Track and Board Scholarship.
Abby Braby, who plans to attend Missouri State University, Springfield, is receiving a $5,700 Provost Scholarship.
Emma Braby, who plans to attend Westminster College, Fulton, is receiving a $23,000 Trustees Scholarship.
