Firefighters were notified of the engulfed structure around 4:20 p.m., and shortly afterward were alerted of explosions coming from within the burning structure.

Less than half an hour after escorting California High School wrestlers on their way to the state tournament, California Fire Department crews responded around 4:15 p.m.
