California wrestling wins seven medals in Tri-County Conference Tournament

Several California High School wrestlers medaled after taking to the mat Friday in the Tri-County Conference Championship Tournament in Hallsville.

For the Lady Pintos at 130 pounds, Bella Fulks finished in second place after a loss by fall to Brookelynn Meeks of Blair Oaks in the championship match.

At 170 pounds, Ivy Scroggins took second place with a win by fall over Nevaeh Gipson of Southern Boone in one minute eight seconds and a loss by fall to Halie Eaton of Blair Oaks in the championship match.

At 190 pounds, Ivee Cooper took second place with wins by fall over Ros Crane of Blair Oaks in four minutes and 33 seconds, and Izzy Riley of Southern Boone in four minutes and 21 seconds. Cooper lost by fall to Jayda Stephan of Eldon in the finals.

For the Pintos, at 106 pounds, Talyn Balsley placed third with a loss by fall to Tyler Dumas of Hallsville in his first match. He won by fall over Christopher Brandt of Eldon after two minutes and three seconds in the third-place match to score 10 team points for California.

At 113 pounds, Connor Farmer placed third with a loss by fall to Zachary Green of Osage, a win by fall over Jax Luebbering of Blair Oaks in one minute and 54 seconds, and a 8-6 win in a sudden victory over Gage Sparks of Southern Boone.

At 120 pounds, Isaac McCarty lost by fall to Kaid Shaw of Southern Boone and Brock Arrowood of Osage.

At 126 pounds, Patrick Morrow placed third with a 8-4 decision loss to Blaine Bergthold of Southern Boone and a win by fall over Garrett Faulstich of Osage in three minutes and six seconds.

At 132 pounds, Jose Martinez lost to Kaiden Caudle of Blair Oaks by fall and to Logan Crane of Southern Boone 4-3.

At 138 pounds, Daylen Yarnell lost by fall to Than Htway of Hallsville and Gavin Koch of Southern Boone in a 9-4 decision.

At 144 pounds, Jackson Barnard finished fourth place with a 7-6 win by decision over George Long of Osage. He also had a loss to Whit Nichols of Blair Oaks by fall, a win by fall over Preston Proskocil of Hallsville in one minute and 53 seconds, and a loss to George Long of Osage by a 5-0 decision.

At 285 pounds, Alexis Anguiano took third place with a 3-2 decision loss to Ryder Comegys of Boonville and a win by fall over Luke Anderson of Hallsville in 39 seconds.

The next day, some of California's wrestlers went to compete in Sedalia at the Smith-Cotton Rookie Round-Up.

For the Lady Pintos at 130 pounds, Fulks took home first place with wins by fall over Yeneli Carillo of Belton in 5 minutes, Aryana Taylor of Belton in 3 minutes and 50 seconds, Lily Neal of Osage in 3 minutes and 4 seconds, and a 5-0 decision win over Rylee Fairchild of Cole Camp.

At 190 pounds, Cooper ended in third place with losses to Jayda Stephan of Eldon by fall and Bella Bauer of Stover by fall.

For the Pintos, at 106 pounds, Balsley finished second place in his bracket with a win by fall over Christopher Brandt of Eldon in one minute and 31 seconds, Kameryn Scott of Eldon in 54 seconds, Nic Groll of Osage in four minutes and 38 seconds, and Nico Punshon of Windsor in five minutes and 30 seconds. Balsley lost his final match to Alias Murray of Stover by a fall.

At 113, Farmer finished second place with a win by fall over Logan Busler of Knob Noster in three minutes and 49 seconds, a win by decision over LB Fulkerson of Lebanon, a win by major decision over Mervin Allen of Battle, and a loss by decision to Darrin Leonard of Boonville.

At 120, McCarty won first place with a win by decision over Colton Coonce of Eldon, a win by fall over Danny Black of Knob Noster in three minutes and 33 seconds, a win by fall over Justice Husmann of Boonville in three minutes and 43 seconds, and a win by fall over Julian Vargas of Hickman in three minutes and 43 seconds.

At 132, Martinez finished second place with a loss to Gage Hatton of Hallsville by fall, a win by fall over Peyton Corwin of Smith-Cotton in one minute and 25 seconds, and a win by fall over Austin Yakle of Lebanon in one minute and 48 seconds.

At 138, Daylen Yarnell took home third place with a 10-5 win by decision over Levi Jones of Smith-Cotton, a win by fall over Aiden Kennedy of Lebanon in one minute and 52 seconds, a loss by fall to Aiden Firestine of Warrensburg, and a loss by a 9-4 decision to Hayden Reinsch of Helias Catholic.

California will be back in action Wednesday at the Tipton Tri.
