Nixon appoints Jefferson City attorney as new judge in Moniteau County

Jefferson City lawyer Aaron J. Martin, who lives in California, is Moniteau County's new associate circuit judge.

Gov. Jay Nixon announced the appointment Thursday, to fill the vacancy created with the appointment of current Associate Circuit Judge Peggy Richardson as the new, and third, circuit judge for the five-county 26th judicial circuit.

Martin is a founding partner in the Jefferson City law firm Martin & Grayson LLC and has been with the firm since 2006.

Martin previously practiced law in Morgan County.

A Tipton native, he graduated from Tipton High School in 1995, then graduated summa cum laude from Culver-Stockton College in Canton with a bachelor's degree in accounting and criminal justice.

He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri in 2002.

Martin currently serves as the president of the Jefferson City Breakfast Rotary Club.

"Aaron Martin's experience and knowledge of the law will be valuable assets in serving the citizens of Moniteau County from the bench," Nixon said.

Martin's biography, posted on his law firm's website, notes he serves on the Missouri Supreme Court's Juvenile Court Improvement Committee and "volunteers through the Samaritan Center Legal Care program, helping to make sure everyone has access to legal representation."

Martin's "success as an attorney has involved civil and criminal cases representing both individuals and businesses in a variety of legal matters," the biography explains.

Martin and his wife, Kim, have two daughters. They attend Capital City Christian Church in Jefferson City.

Martin was raised on a farm near Tipton and now lives on a farm near California. He is "an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoys spending time with his family on their farm and in the Missouri outdoors," the law firm's biography said.
