Jefferson City shooting suspect caught

A Jefferson City man wanted in connection with a weekend shooting was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.

Jefferson City police detectives and members of the Community Action Team located Dana Day Jr., 28, at approximately 12:54 p.m. Tuesday and took him into custody, according to police reports.

Day is charged with shooting a man twice Saturday evening in the 200 block of North Ventura Avenue.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Day was being held without bond in the Cole County Jail on charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The victim, a 24-year-old Jefferson City man, was found lying at the end of Ventura Avenue, shot twice in the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The victim told officers he was in the parking lot when Day confronted him, displayed a firearm and shot him. What led to the shooting was not specified in the probable cause statement.

Day was identified by the victim via a photo lineup.

Court records show Day has been found guilty of numerous misdemeanor and felony cases in the past.
