Moniteau County Sheriff Tony Wheatley has received a number of texts and emails from county residents concerned about the number - or rather, the lack - of news releases detailing recent crimes within the county. The reason for the seemingly quiet news from the department is an encouraging one.

"I am happy to report that there have been no incidents in the county recently to write about," Wheatley said. "The incidents we have had are mostly routine calls for service with no major crimes to report.

"Our county crime rates as I (have) stated before (are) at an all time low and we are continuing our proactive patrols to keep it that way. Some of our surrounding counties and cities are continuing to see an increase in crime-related activity and we want to keep our guard up to try and deter those crimes from coming into our area."

Wheatley expressed his gratitude for the support his office regularly receives from Moniteau County residents and wishes to inform everyone "it makes a big difference when you have citizens who care enough to report suspicious activity."

"I again want to thank the citizens of our great county and want to wish all of you a safe and happy holiday," Wheatley said.
