Mark Shore became the principal for Prairie Home in January.

Shore, who has been a principal and a vice principal, said this was the first time he started at a school mid-year.

"I recently moved back from Colorado over the summer, and this job became available mid-year. So I applied," Shore said. "I went through a couple of rounds of interviews, which is pretty typical. It came down to me and another finalist, and I was fortunate enough to receive the offer."

Shore said coming into the school mid-year has been different.

"But it has been a very good experience, and I really like the school and the community," he said.

Shore said he enjoys learning about the new place where he works.

"As an educator, we always talk about being lifelong learners," Shore said. "Being new to a school and a community, you have a lot to learn. So I love the opportunity to learn about a new place and how I might be able to help."

Shore said he wants to finish his career at Prairie Home and have a positive impact on the school.

"I think everyone wants to leave a place better than when they started," Shore said. "We have a great school, so it will be a challenge for me to find ways to make us even better."

Shore said he is focusing on learning more about Prairie Home.

"It is important to honor traditions and history and then find areas where we can improve," Shore said. "So right now, my focus is on learning."
