The weather may have been chilly during the Oct. 26 drug takeback, but that didn't stop Moniteau County residents from stopping by city hall to drop off expired or unused medication at the California Police Department.

Officer Darrell Chute braved the cold temperatures and helped the program collect 105 pounds of medication, filling four boxes before the day's end.

Chute said residents do not have to wait until the DEA offers the opportunity for takebacks. The police department always has a box for residents to turn in unused or expired medication to be disposed of properly.
