Two representatives from Architects Alliance met with the Moniteau County R-1 School Board during its Sept. 18 meeting to discuss updates on the bond issue project.

Architect/principal Cary Gampher introduced himself and Michelle Girard, draftsperson/project manager, on the diagrams their team have worked on, as well as running through program summaries with the board.

"This is just a progression of where we've been and where we are now," Girard said. "We're looking at what would be the most economical and best use of the space and function for the elementary school in respect for the multipurpose space."

There are a couple of places where the multipurpose room could be placed, Girard said. One option could be to leave the room where it is. Girard and her team are still working out the tweaks with writing pros and cons of this option. Another place the room could be moved is the space between the middle and elementary school buildings. One more possibility is to add the multipurpose space without enclosing the two buildings, ensuring the room is weather-tight.

"Right now, we're still working on cost estimating for those areas with the decision on where the multipurpose room goes," she said. "This could change the programming and the elementary functions if it stays where it is right now."

With time to find the best solution for a new floor plan, Gampher said Girard is putting the finishing touches on a model that may be a more visible representation of their ideas.

"Michelle is building a model for the entire campus," Gampher said. "We'll have the entire footprint and all the square footage in the model This makes for a more realistic view of what the building will look like in a 3D perspective."

Girard also said a team of civil, structural and mechanical engineers are working to ensure the most feasible options are executed in an economically sound fashion.

In other business, the board:

- Approved the certified educational status change for 12 teachers who earned their master's degrees over the summer break. This led to a $14,220.40 increase in the salary schedule.

- Approved the resignation of John Hempe, full-time substitute and high school assistant baseball coach.
