Two people were arrested Wednesday following a pursuit with law officers ending in Moniteau County.

Deputies were notified by the Missouri Highway Patrol of a vehicle pursuit on I-70 west of Boonville, according to Moniteau County Sheriff's Office reports. The patrol stated the vehicle had turned south on Missouri 135.

Moniteau County deputies started toward the Morgan County/Moniteau County line just west of Tipton, and as deputies approached the area they met the vehicle traveling east on U.S. 50. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued on U.S. 50 toward Tipton.

The Tipton Police Department deployed spike strips on U.S. 50 just inside the city limits. The vehicle hit the spike strips and continued into Tipton, then turned onto a side street and ended up stopping due to a flat tire on Cooper Street.

A female driver and a male passenger then fled on foot.

After a short foot chase the driver was taken into custody. Deputies sealed the area and began a foot search for the male passenger, who was eventually taken into custody.

Deputies reported the vehicle was found to be listed as stolen out of the Overland Park, Kansas, area. The male suspect was found to be on probation and parole for knowingly burning and tampering with a motor vehicle. The female suspect had multiple warrants for her arrest out of the Kansas City area and was on probation and parole for drugs and stealing.

Upon search of the vehicle authorities allegedly found a large quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

According to patrol arrest reports connected to the incident, Cody P. Nelson, 28, of Sugar Creek, and Brittany N. Mikel, 26, of Independence, were accused of trafficking drugs, tampering with a motor vehicle and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Mikel also was wanted on a felony warrant for failure to appear in Jackson County and three misdemeanor warrants.
