Moniteau County voters approve sales tax

Moniteau County voters approved a countywide tax levy via Proposition P in Tuesday's municipal election.

In total, 55.33 percent of voters - 1,200 out of 2,169 - cast yes votes for the ballot measure.

The new half-cent sales tax funding law enforcement and county road and bridge maintenance and repairs is expected to generate $600,000 annually, with each of law enforcement and roads and bridges receiving half. The cost to citizens per year will average around $37.50.

The tax levy will help the county maintain 530 miles of roadway system, while the additional funding will help the sheriff's office stay afloat at its current operational capacity.
