Active COVID-19 cases return to Moniteau County

After dropping to zero at the end of May, a few active cases of coronavirus in Moniteau County have popped up.

As of Monday evening, three COVID-19 cases remain active in the county. Including these cases, Moniteau County has seen 58 total cases to date, with 54 recoveries and just one death.

On Monday, the Moniteau County Health Center also began reporting total tests for both PCR and serology.

PCR tests look for viral RNA in the nose, throat or other areas in the respiratory tract to determine if there is an active COVID-19 infection, while serology tests look for antibodies in the blood to determine if there has been a COVID-19 infection in the past. A positive result means that the individual was infected with COVID-19 in the past or recently, and their immune system developed antibodies to try to fight it off.
