Two men seriously injured in personal watercraft-boat crash

Two 21-year-old men from West Des Moines, Iowa, were taken to area hospitals for serious injuries after a crash Friday night between a personal watercraft and a boat on the Lake of Ozarks in Morgan County.

Authorities do not know who was driving a 2015 Sea-Doo that struck the starboard side of a 1995 Envision boat at 7 p.m., but Cole A. Coffin and Jack R. Koerner, both on the Sea-Doo, were seriously injured in the collision.

Coffin was airlifted by MU Air Care to University Hospital. Koerner was transported by EMS to Lake Regional Hospital.

Three people in the boat were not injured: Garrett B. Bright, age unknown, of Crystal Lake, Illinois; driver Todd A. Gore, 56, of Port Barrington, Illinois; and Vanessa M. Gore, 22, also of Port Barrington.

The collision occurred at the 4.2 mile mark of the Gravois Arm of the lake. The Sea-Doo was traveling south, and the boat was traveling north.

Coffin and Koerner were wearing life jackets; the people in the boat were not.
