Three arrested on drug charges

Three area suspects were arrested on drug-related charges last Wednesday.

Deputies with the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office heard radio traffic of a report of suspicious activity in California at 2:45 a.m. March 18 near the area of South Roache and West Wilkes streets. Deputies responded to assist the California Police Department with the call.

Upon arrival, they made contact with three subjects identified as Eric P. Miller, 35; Curtis D. Matheney, 25; and James L. Suggs, 41. The subjects told officers they were in the area to pick up a trailer to help move one of the subjects. Deputies ran the subjects and found Miller was currently on probation and parole for burglary, Matheney was currently on probation and parole for burglary and possession of a controlled substance and Suggs was also currently on probation and parole for possession of a controlled substance.

Law enforcement officers on the scene then searched the subjects and the area. Upon search, deputies located a rolled up piece of paper that contained a white substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine. All three subjects were taken into custody at that time. Upon further search of the immediate area, deputies located a black bag that contained additional methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. All three subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Moniteau County jail.

Miller, of California, was cited with delivery of a controlled substance (meth), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, with bond set at $50,000. Miller has previously been found guilty of the following charges: stealing, 2018; possession of drug paraphernalia, 2018; and second degree burglary, 2019, for which he is currently on probation and parole.

Matheney, of Jefferson City, was cited with possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, with bond set at $25,000. Matheny has previously been found guilty of the following charges: possession/manufacturing/selling an illegal weapon, 2013; possession of a controlled substance, 2016; driving while revoked, 2015; second degree burglary, 2016; possession of a controlled substance, 2020; resisting arrest, 2017; possession of a controlled substance, 2019; and driving while revoked, 2019.

Suggs, of California, was cited with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, with bond set at $25,000. Suggs has previously been found guilty of the following charges: child molestation, 1997; stealing, 1997; driving while revoked, 2006; driving while revoked, 2007; failed to notify sheriff of residency, 2009; failure to register as a sex offender, 2012; driving while revoked, 2015; driving while revoked, 2016; and possession of a controlled substance, 2018.
