The California Rural Fire Protection District succeeded Tuesday in passing the first tax levy increase in its more than 20-year history.
The measure passed with 997 of the 1,792 votes cast, roughly 55.63 percent, in favor of the amended levy.
The result will be a 30-cent increase to the existing 20-cent tax levy, which the district intends to use to fund crucial equipment updates to better serve 2,465 resides across Moniteau County.
The district first attempted a ballot measure attempt in June, asking for a 60-cent increase to bring the total tax levy to 80 cents, but it failed by a narrow margin.
