A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of central, south central and southeast Missouri until 5 p.m. today because of strong south winds, low humidity and dry material.

These conditions can quickly allow fires to grow out of control, especially in areas that are exposed to stronger winds, according to the National Weather Service.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
