Moniteau County reported another death due to the coronavirus Monday, bringing the county's tally to eight since March.

The person was a resident in their 80s, according to the Moniteau County Health Center.

As has been the case with others who have died due to COVID-19, the Health Center noted no further information about the individual would be released at this time.

This is the third COVID-19 death in Moniteau County in the past week, which comes as active cases of COVID-19 have skyrocketed in the county throughout the month.

As of 9:45 a.m. Monday, Moniteau County's active case count sits at 109, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 563.

In just the past seven days, Moniteau County has added 107 new cases, six of which are hospitalized at this time.

The Health Center again urged everyone to take actions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including avoiding close contact with people who are sick; avoiding touching one's eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands; washing one's hands with soap and water regularly; cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces regularly; staying home if one feels sick; and adhering to proper social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others and wearing a facial covering when engaging in tasks away from home.

Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
