Community Health Center begins process of move to new space

Work is underway on the Community Health Center of Central Missouri's (CHCCMO) new space for its California clinic, the office previously occupied by Jefferson City Medical Group's Family Health Clinic at 606 E. Buchanan.

Work began on the building's interior last Friday, some demolition to get some of the current exam rooms reconfigured so they can serve as dental operatories. The goal is to move into the new space by the end of the year, but no definitive date is set for an opening as of yet.

Kyra Clevenger, Chief Operations Officer for CHCCMO, said the move will be a welcome one; the California clinic's current location out near California High School means that awareness of what services CHCCMO offers is rather low.

"Really, moving into this new location I think is going to give us the benefit of visibility, as well as the extended space we need," Clevenger said. "At our current space, we're right on top of each other; we have just grown out of that, so it will be good getting the ability to spread out a little."

Clevenger said CHCCMO provides medical, dental and behavioral health services to anyone, with or without insurance. She said the medical provider is at the California clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and days when the dental provider is in house often vary.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the clinic is providing its behavioral health services only via telehealth or a virtual platform at this time.

For other services a patron may need that aren't provided specifically by the California clinic, be it an OB/GYN, psychiatry or nutrition, CHCCMO will help to connect them with its providers at its Jefferson City location to be facilitate either in person or via telehealth, Clevenger said.

More information about CHCCMO's offerings is available on its website at www.chccmo.org or on the Community Health Center of Central Missouri Facebook page.
