CALIFORNIA, Mo. - Rich Green emerged the victor in Tuesday's municipal election, according to the unofficial election results released by the Moniteau County Clerk's office Tuesday.
Green accrued 632 of the 740 votes cast by California residents for the position, good for 85.41 percent of the vote. Challenger Aaron Bishop followed with 14.19 percent of the vote, or 105 votes. Three individuals voted for write-ins on their ballots.
Green will take on the role occupied by outgoing Mayor Norris Gerhart, who has served in the position for the past two decades.
Green and his wife, Pam, moved to California part-time in 2002, restoring the Eitzen Mansion; the pair would later move to the city full-time in 2010. Green retired from his career in the oil and gas industry in 2020, paving the way for his successful mayoral campaign this year.
Prior to the election, Green said he aims to employ a management style that seeks to empower city employees to do their best work. His goals include implementing policies that will attract people to live and work in California and to provide strong support for local businesses.
Green also emphasized a desire to ready California for future growth and to provide support to the California Police Department in its efforts to rebuild.
