Calling all alumni: CMS is looking for track records

The hunt for any records related to California Middle School’s track team is on, as the team tries to establish a formal record book and board at CMS.

Coaches with the team are asking the community and all those who have previously participated in track at CMS to send in records from any year.

Over the years, older records have been lost or misplaced and with there being no system put in place, it’s made it hard for coaches over the years to keep track of all the records, CMS track head coach Scott Davis said. This year, however, a record board along with an official book is being purchased where students’ records from the past and future will be kept.

Davis said he believes that doing so will help create a sense of motivation and pride for current CMS track athletes, and also give the ability to reflect back on those that came before them and give past athletes all the recognition they deserve.

“We’ve had two track meets already,” Davis said earlier this month. “One in Russellville and one in Eldon. We have the official results from Russellville and as we go on, hopefully by the end of the year, we could at least have something to compare their results to.”

By sending in records, Davis said it will help give a better sense of where the current students stand and allow them to be properly recognized for the achievements. At the same time, Davis said it’s important to not disrespect someone who still holds a record to this day.

Those who have an old newspaper clipping, official document from a track meet or picture to submit can make a copy and send it to California Middle School ATTN: MS Track Records, 101 South Owens Street, California, Missouri 65018 or email [email protected].
